Greg Smith
Greg is a financial service professional with over 45 years of experience. Much of his work has been involved with executive level representation of three different HNW private families where over 28 years he held C level positions in banks, bank holding companies, airlines, chemical companies, and insurance, real estate and automobile dealership and fleet rental entities. He has served as Chairman of boards of directors of public and private companies and has successfully managed over $1 Billion in buy-side and sell-side transactions and numerous private equity placements. Greg started his career with Norwest Bank in Minneapolis, MN in commercial lending and earned a CPA certificate while at a national CPA firm. He also served as managing partner of a FINRA Member firm in Minneapolis engaged in M&A and private placement transactions for 3 years. Over the past 10 years, Greg has been a Registered Rep with several FINRA Member firms, which led to joining Rainmaker Securities. Greg has deep relationships with regional and community banks across the country and maintains healthy relationships with the bank regulatory community having arranged the purchase or sale of dozens of banks in private transaction. These relations paired with his network of private/non-traditional lenders enables him to be effective in most any debt placement. Greg’s industry expertise includes banking, airlines, chemicals, oil and gas, leasing and commercial real estate. He has been effective in business turn-arounds, recapitalizations, and management restructurings and led numerous mergers, acquisitions, debt placements and equity capital placements. Greg has BA degrees in economics, finance and taxation from Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota and holds Series 82 and 63 securities licenses.
